QUALIFICATIONS OF THE APPRAISER
John P. O’Malley, SRA
CT Certified Appraiser No. RCR.388
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Since 1976, prior to completing my formal education, I have worked in real estate related employment as a carpenter, framer and remodeler. My involvement in residential construction has continued through the years where I have built and sold homes for profit and my personal residences. My building experience has brought invaluable knowledge to my appraisal career providing me superior insight in reading and interpreting blue prints and specifications combined with first hand knowledge of building costs and methods.
After completing my formal education in 1982; and, since 1984, my full time employment has been in the appraisal of residential properties.
In 1984 I joined Property Financial Services in Glastonbury, Connecticut, as an Appraiser of Real Estate. In this position I inspected, researched and valued properties including single-family residences, individual condominium units, land proposed for condominium development and small residential (2-6 unit) income producing properties. In addition, I made inspections of properties under construction to authorize incremental releases of construction mortgages, verifying completion and compliance with plans and specifications.
In 1985 I accepted a position as an Appraisal Officer with Charter Appraisal Company, Inc. My duties at Charter were similar to those at Property Financial Services. In addition, I performed computer entry of pertinent data for preparation of FNMA/FHLMC reports and short-form narrative appraisals of residences and land. I have also appeared as an expert witness and testified in Superior Court.
In 1992, I fulfilled all the necessary studies and met all the stringent Appraisal Institute’s requirements for quality of work to be accepted as a member of the Appraisal Institute, receiving the SRA designation.
In 1994 I was one of three principals who founded O’Malley, O’Rourke & Bezz, Appraisal Associates, Inc.
